What is TapaPass
TapaPass is a digital tasting passport and food trail platform that lets a Business Improvement District, DMO, restaurant association, or chamber of commerce run its food trail or restaurant week with real, verified participation data. Instead of a paper passport and a PDF report at the end, visitors scan a QR code at each venue, upload a photo of the dish, and an AI validates the photo so only people who actually showed up can vote. The organizer gets a live dashboard with neighborhood heat maps and top dishes, every participating venue gets its own ranking panel, and you keep full ownership of the data with CSV and JSON export — no lock-in. It runs as a PWA (no app store, install in one tap), self-hosted in the EU under GDPR-grade conditions with a signable DPA.
- Verified, not estimated. A vote only counts after a QR scan and an AI-validated photo of the dish — so your participation numbers reflect real foot traffic, not guesses.
- You own the data. Export to CSV or JSON whenever you want, including the day you decide not to renew. No vendor lock-in, ever.
- Live, not a year-end PDF. Watch participation, neighborhood heat maps, and top dishes update with under 2 seconds of lag, while the event is still running.
- GDPR-grade EU hosting. Self-hosted in Germany with a signable DPA and no tracking cookies — clean for public-sector and association procurement.
BIDs & downtown associations
Run a food trail or tasting crawl across your district and prove the impact to your board and members. Live neighborhood heat maps show which blocks draw traffic, each venue sees its own ranking, and you export the full dataset for your annual report.
DMOs, CVBs & tourism boards
Turn a restaurant week or culinary trail into a measurable visitor program. A 365-day passport keeps visitors collecting stamps across trails, and verified scans give you defensible attendance numbers instead of estimates — data you keep and own.
Restaurant associations & chambers
Give member restaurants a panel with their own ranking, comments, and photos in real time. Verified voting means a fair contest, and the program runs as a PWA your members and visitors install in one tap — no app store, no friction.
How it works
- 1 · A visitor scans the physical QR code posted at each participating venue — no app store download, the PWA opens in one tap.
- 2 · They upload a photo of the dish, and an AI validates the photo to confirm they were actually at the venue.
- 3 · Their vote counts, and a stamp lands in their passport — which keeps collecting across trails and cities for 365 days.
- 4 · You watch it live: participation, neighborhood heat maps, and top dishes update on your dashboard with under 2 seconds of lag, while each venue sees its own ranking panel.
- 5 · Export the full dataset to CSV or JSON anytime — during the event, after it, and the day you choose not to renew. The data is always yours.
Plans
Single Trail
One food trail with up to 40 venues, the live dashboard, CSV export, and basic branding. Right for a first pilot or a single seasonal event. Request a quote.
Annual
Unlimited trails per city, API export, a premium per-venue panel, and priority support. Built for organizations running multiple programs across the year. Request a quote.

Real proof
TapaPass is running a real food trail today, not just on paper. In Tacoronte (Tenerife, Spain), the platform powers a tasting trail across 14 real venues and has already logged 185 verified scans — each one a QR scan plus an AI-validated photo, not a self-reported click. The same verified-voting and live-dashboard engine your district would use is in production right now, and you can try the visitor experience and the organizer dashboard yourself in the live demo before you ever sign anything.

How does procurement and the pilot work — can we start small?
Yes. The Single Trail tier is built as a first pilot: one trail, up to 40 venues, the live dashboard and CSV export. You can run a paid pilot program before committing to an annual contract. The fastest path is to request a quote and a pilot, see the live demo, and scope the trail with us — go-live is 10 days from a signed agreement.
Who owns the participation data, and what export do we get?
You do — fully. You can export the complete dataset to CSV anytime, and to JSON or via API on the Annual and Enterprise tiers. There is no lock-in: you keep the data during the program, after it, and on the day you decide not to renew. The dashboard is live (under 2 seconds of lag), not a year-end PDF that arrives after the trail is over.
Is it privacy-compliant for a public-sector or association program?
It is built for it. TapaPass is self-hosted in the EU (Germany) under GDPR-grade conditions, with a signable Data Processing Agreement and no tracking cookies. That clean privacy posture is part of why it suits BIDs, DMOs, and chambers that have to answer for how visitor data is handled.
How long does it take to launch?
10 days from a signed agreement to a public launch: kick-off on day 1, branding on day 3, printed QR codes on day 5, a private pilot on day 7, and public go-live on day 10. It runs as a PWA, so there is no app-store review delay — visitors install it in one tap.
What happens if we don't renew?
You leave with your data. Before the program ends you export everything to CSV or JSON — there is no lock-in by design. The platform is yours for the contracted period, the data is yours permanently, and nothing about your trail is held hostage to force a renewal.
